Welcome to Norwich, Vermont!

Norwich is part of the Upper Valley Community. It is a small rural community with large community advantages. The population now is a little more than 3500. Norwich was chartered in 1761 mostly being inhabited by a group of people from Manchester, Conn. The first settlers came up during the summer and cleared land and planted corn on an island in the Connecticut River. Find out more about Norwich's interesting past by visiting the Norwich Historical Society in the Lewis House on Main Street.

Dan and Whit's is at the heart of Norwich. The general store boosts that "if we don't have it, you don't need it" and indeed, for the most part this is true. The store is still heated with wood in the winter, but has a stock of fine wines, groceries, hardware, boots, sewing supplies and primium Vermont products such as Maple Syrup and Cabot cheese. Next door to the store is the victorian building which houses the Norwich Inn. Here you can appreciate fine food and lodging. There is also a pub which serves locally brewed beer.

Other attractions include the King Arthur Flour kitchen store and the local organic farm roadside stand, Kildeer Farm. On Saturdays and Wednesdays, during the summer, area farmers and craftspeople hold court at the Farmer's Market. Norwich is also the home of the Monshire Museam, a science museum for children and adults alike.

Just across the Connecticut River is Hanover, New Hampshire, and Dartmouth College. Dartmouth hosts many cultural events including theater, music, movies and art. The Hood Museam has a fine reputation. Close by are the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the White River Junction Veterans' Hospital. Norwich is 2 1/2 hours from Boston and 3 hours from Montreal.

Norwich has an in town elementary school. It share one of the few interstate public school systems(middle school and high school), the Dresden School District, with Hanover New Hampshire.
